The classic among classics, one of the most beautiful hikes in the Ortles-Cevedale Group, drawn on the ridge that divides the Lombardy from Trentino, the theater of the Great War, facing the largest glacial basin of Italy, the Forni glacier. Starting from Vioz refuge ascend the mountain Vioz (3,645 m) by following the simple path. Crossing the glacier ridge, then you come abreast of the Vedretta Rossa glacier (3405 m). From here continue along the rocky ridge to the Palon della Mare (3703 m), the imposing peak from where you can see the entire route of the crossing. After a brief stop at Rosole bivouac (3470 m), you reach the top Cevedale (3769 m) and then continue in the ridge to the Zuffalspitze (3757 m). From there, we start to descend in the ridge or in channels, depending on the snow conditions, heading towards the Cevedale refuge.

Programma dettagliato

DAY 1 – VAL DI PEIO, 9am: meeting with the mountain guide and climb to the refuge Vioz (3644 m)
DAY 2 – Rifugio Vioz – Monte Vioz (3645 m) – Paolon de la Mare (3703 m) – Bivouac Colombo (3470 m) – Monte Rosole (3531 m) – Monte Cevedale (3769 m) – Malga Mare (2031 m).

The route is not particularly difficult. It should however be evaluated both the altitude reached and the path length (second day approximately 10 hours of actual path). This necessitates not only a good workout but also a bit ‘of experience (having already risen some top over three thousand meters and possess the basic knowledge on the use of mountaineering equipment such as crampons and ice ax). The program could be modified at the discretion of the Campo Base Team / Mountain Guide – UIAGM according to weather conditions.
